our educational ENVIRONMENTS

All of our nursery rooms are thoughtfully designed to support the specific age groups they cater to. Our dedicated team has a strong understanding of child development and applies the EYFS principles to create ‘enabling environments’ that promote learning and growth for all children. We continuously assess and adapt our environment to ensure it meets the needs of the children.

Children typically transition through our nursery once a year in September, allowing them to have up to a whole year to build strong bonds with their key person and peers. We’ve observed that this approach has a highly positive impact on children’s overall well-being and development.

Our key people foster strong professional relationships with parents, ensuring consistent communication and support. As children grow throughout the year, they start to scaffold each other’s learning. The environment is progressive along with the skills children will gain throughout their time in each of our rooms.

When it comes to transitions we ensure that these are managed effectively by providing a well-supported period where key people collaborate closely with parents to share important information. This helps ensure that children’s learning continues seamlessly, without any interruptions. Before transitioning, children have plenty of opportunities to experience their new room or spaces. We also host social evenings before the move, where parents can meet their child’s new key person and tour the educational spaces. We believe it’s essential for parents to feel comfortable and informed about their child’s journey so that they can provide the best support during what can sometimes be a challenging time.

CATERPILLAR ROOM

This space is designed for some of our youngest children under 2 years old. It is spacious, light and airy and on the first floor with windows overlooking our local greenery. The room is designed to support children to develop their skills and knowledge in the prime areas of learning; personal social and emotional development, communication and language and physical development.

We offer a cosy space for babies to explore and be curious, safely. Furniture is carefully positioned to enable those starting to pull themselves up and walk to do this safely and access toys of their choice. Children have separate spaces for nappy changing/toileting, sleeping and dining.

Dragonfly room

This space is designed for children aged between 14 months and 2.5 years. It introduces them to the love of free-flow to the outdoors with a direct access to an enclosed outdoor patio and large garden area. Children access a range of stimulating resources of their choice from sensory activities, small world toys such as cars and farm animals to familiar stories and soft furnishings. They are fully supported to take part in activities of their interest. Children have access to toilets close by and also have a separate dining area and sleep room.

ladybird ROOM

This space is designed for children from around 2 to 3 years. The room has vaulted ceilings with Velux windows allowing sunlight to beam through from above. Children in this room have direct access to a large garden with key features. These include; climbing wall and slide to help develop their physical strength and a large sandpit where they get creative and fill, empty, carry and construct. This enables them to develop a number of skills to support pre-writing.

There are three separate double doors to the outdoors allowing children to have a sense of calm from our natural surroundings even when inside. They take great pleasure free-flowing between our spacious indoor classroom and down to our covered outdoor classroom and enjoying all that’s in between. These children have access to toilets close by and also have a separate dining area and sleep room.

little BUTTERFLIES

The Little Butterflies have a nurturing base room which promotes calm and engaging play opportunities. They have free flow access during parts of the day into the Big Butterfly room to enable more collaborative play with slightly older children. Children have a large space to enter and hang their bags and coats. They have their own kitchen, dining room and toilets. They have access to garden spaces and a large playground space.

The Butterflies (our pre-school children) have a self-contained area of the building with high vaulted ceilings and plenty of windows allowing oodles of natural light throughout. Children have a large space to enter and hang their bags and coats. They have their own kitchen, dining room and toilets, two spacious classrooms, utility spaces and doors directly to our impressive outdoor play area.
